A Home In Haiti - OKC Tent Drive

I must confess that I have become a bit obsessed by the recent tragedy in Haiti.  It saddens me greatly, but to merely feel sadness is not enough.  The earthquake in Haiti was a “Grievous Sacred Moment.”  There is an appropriate response.  I have been wrestling with what that response may be.  My fear is that we will forget.

“Moses spoke of the need to constantly tell the Exodus story, the one about the rescue from slavery, ‘otherwise when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.’”

“Moses can see the days of abundance coming.  Someday they will not only have enough, they will have more than enough.  And he knows that this blessing is going to bring with it tremendous temptation to forget the God who provides it.  How do you forget God?  you forget God when you forget the people God cares about.  Over and over God speaks of the widow, the orphan and the refugee.  This is how you remember God:  you bless those who need it the most in the same way that God blessed you when you needed it the most.”

In just a few days, it will begin to rain regularly in Haiti.  Could you imagine living outside, permanently, in the rain, with nothing but cloth sheets held up by sticks to protect you?  Currently, this is set to be the very harsh reality for over 700,000 Haitian men, women, and children who still have nothing to protect them from the elements.

We are partnering with A Home In Haiti and 75 other local tent drive leaders across the country to help provide an immediate home in Haiti for people that so desperately need it.  So far we have received 1,075 tents that will provide shelter for 5,143 people.

We need 200,000 quality, waterproof tents for Haiti as soon as possible.  I am asking you to consider a handful of options:

1.  Click Here to purchase tents directly.

2.  Click Here to make a financial contribution to A Home In Haiti or  make your designated checks payable to:  Cornerstone PO Box 12871 - OKC, OK 73157

3.  Buy new tents of all shapes & sizes and arrange to bring them to our drop-off location.  Reply to this email for details on drop-off location and times..

4.  Donate used tents in good condition and arrange to bring them to our drop-off location.  Reply to this email for details on drop-off location and times.

In the words of Shaun King, “The goal is for you to get as many tents as humanly possible. Push hard. Ask family, friends, strangers, businesses, religious organizations, dogs, aliens, intergalactic space monkeys…everybody you know and don’t know to help.”

Please let me know if you need anything further.
