ShareFest Spotlight: Dorothy Day Center

On Saturday, April 17th, churches like yours across Oklahoma City are invited to take part in Sharefest, a one-day blitz of service.  Each church is encouraged to select a project that will be of significance to the surrounding community - one act of kindness that blesses families, neighborhoods, or schools.

Every year we invite non-profit organizations and compassionate ministries to submit a project.  These are organizations that have a worthwhile cause but are in need of volunteers to help meet practical needs.  For the next several days leading up to Sharefest, we will be highlighting one of these organizations so that you and your local church might consider partnering with one of these great ministries.

Dorothy Day Center - A Helping Hand For Those In Need:

From the Dorothy Day website, “The Dorothy Day Center is a food pantry that serves the greater metropolitan area of Oklahoma City.  We are part of the parish social ministry program at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Our ministry is run completely by volunteers.  We have no paid staff, therefore most of our budget is spent on direct aid, and a small amount is spent on equipment for operations.  We average approximately 350 deliveries of food to about 955 individuals a month.  Our food pantry is a delivery only food pantry.”

From Bob Waldrop in regards to their Sharefest project, “We will deliver food to about 300 households who do not have transportation and thus do not have the ability to drive to a regular food bank.  First, we bag the groceries, and then we head out in personal cars to make deliveries.  We need people to help bag the groceries and people to drive.  We do this every month.”

Please contact Rex Barrett by email at Rex.Barrett@SharefestOKC.com to let us know if you plan to help meet this need.

Please contact Bob Waldrop by email at BWaldrop@cox.net or by phone at 557-0436 to make plans to partner with the Dorothy Day Center for Sharefest.

Let’s be the answer to our own prayers!
